I am one lucky girl.
I grew up in a family where everyone is loving, caring, and supportive. I’ve been with my University sweetheart (now hubby) for almost 10 years now and we are still head over heels in love with each other. He’s kind, has a great heart, loving, understanding, supportive, patient, and empathetic. He thinks my food are the best.
I’ve also been very privileged to have lived in some of the most beautiful places in the world.
Home #1 – Land of smiles
Born some thirty odd years ago in a family of food lovers in Bangkok, Thailand.
We grew up in a household that cherishes good food. We would drive an hour out of town for a good seafood feast. When we go on holiday, the focus is what/where/when are we going to eat.
Dad loves good food and all things spicy. This is where I picked up the spicy food eating habit from.
Mum makes the best most amazing food in the world. She loves cooking for the crowd, and the crowds adore her and her cooking. Her secret weapon (other than MSG) is love. Food tastes amazing when it’s made with love. You should be so lucky to have tried one of her creations.
Brother number one: entertainer, musical genius and funny man. He loves eating & making comfort food. His breakfast fry up is THE BEST. Hands down.
Brother number two: food scientist & family food safety police. He enjoys food that are scientifically tasty but us mere mortals don’t understand, like fresh pineapple and soy sauce (what?)
Home #2 – Land of long white cloud
We moved to New Zealand, the gorgeous scenic nature galore, during the high school years.
My close University friends are all food lovers.
University is also where I met the love of my life, whom I married some years later. This kind-hearted, loving, all-round-awesomeness man is originally from the city of Mumbai (a.k.a. Bombay), India. And you guessed it, he loves food. He also enjoys cooking, but not a big fan of following recipes to a tee, which means when he creates something fantastic we don’t have a reference point to replicate the dish. We’re working on this issue.
For our honeymoon we spent 3 weeks travelling around Italy, and loved it. You could say we caught the Europe travel bugs.
Home #3 – Land of fine restaurants and Europe travel hub
We fell in love with being in London. Despite the cold weather (I’m not a big fan of hot summer anyway) we love the idea of being able to go on quick weekend trips to a European city. We love the food options (street food, comfort food, and Michelin star restaurants) in London, and we love the Asian fruits & vegetables you can get in London that cannot be imported into New Zealand for biosecurity reasons.
We don’t plan to be in London forever. Our hearts are in New Zealand. But for the time being, we love being in London and are having the time of our lives.
